Berlin × Bujumbura

A Burundian innovation hub, with a Berlin partner.

TunaShare Burundi is a social enterprise and innovation hub. For three years we have supported entrepreneurs, women leaders and community projects in Bujumbura. TunaRide is our flagship next chapter: circular bike mobility, built with logistics support from Berlin.

One organisation. Multiple programs. One coherent mission: practical, inclusive solutions for Burundi.

Founder story

From Berlin streets to Bujumbura stations

TunaRide started with a question I couldn't shake: why does my city have a thousand abandoned bikes locked to the same poles, while my home country has people walking three hours to work because there's no fuel?

I'm a Berlin-based founder with roots in East Africa. For years I watched Burundi struggle with fuel shortages that stopped buses, raised taxi prices, and quietly cost people their jobs and their kids' school days. I also watched Germany throw away — or simply forget — bikes that were perfectly capable of another life.

Big aid programmes don't fix this. Apps that copy Western mobility models don't fix it either. What works is a real loop: collect locally in Germany, refurbish properly, ship by container, train people on the ground in Burundi, and let them run the network as a real business with real wages.

That's TunaRide. Not a charity. Not a side project. A serious, hybrid social enterprise built with the rigour of a startup and the values of a movement.

"When a young woman in Bujumbura unlocks her bike with a phone, and that bike was donated by a family in Hamburg, two continents have just helped each other. That is the future."

Our values

Four non-negotiables

Dignity first

Entrepreneurs, partners, customers and team members are treated as equals — never as beneficiaries.

Women-led leadership

Around 70% of the ventures and programs we support are led by women. It shapes how we hire, mentor and decide.

Honest impact

We measure what matters — incubated startups, jobs, revenue, CO₂ — and publish numbers, even when they're hard.

Local first, globally connected

Rooted in Bujumbura, working with European partners. Solutions designed for Burundi, not imported templates.
